The Human Rights Campaign Foundation recently released their 2014 Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) which rates over 1500 healthcare facilities nationwide on their commitment to LGBT equality. A record 507 facilities actively participated in the 2014 HEI, and 426 earned the HRC Foundation’s “Leader In LGBT Healthcare Equality” distinction. In addition to the active participants, this year, HRC independently researched and rated hundreds of hospitals that declined to participate in the HEI and unfortunately found that too many hospitals fall short in providing LGBT-inclusive patient and employment non-discrimination protections.
